I read this story, or a variant thereof, before a full bore Rating: 1 / 5
I liked the earlier book’s Lisa See (Snow Flower and the peony), so I was very exciting to see this new addition to. His lyrical writing and the depth of his characterizations always caught my intérêt.Shanghai girl tells the story of two young Chinese women as war, flight experiences, rape, arranged marriages, and a trip to America, where they finally begin their complex to overcome relationship. Pearl, the eldest and narrator, is charged with protecting her younger sister, May, as they navigate the challenges before them. However, it also has the position of the victim, which is built the minds of his decisions and chemin.L story very satisfying and exciting, but the end leaves too many loose ends for me. May is leaving with her sick husband and Pearl began a journey back to his homeland to find joy, the daughter they share, but fled when experience the joy, the truth of his origin and birth. One can only hope that women continue to see their story, because it is very incomplete. Rating: 3 / 5
Lisa See first book I read was in July last year when I picked up “See Snow Flower and the Secret Fan:” Roman at the border (my comment on this page if you want to know how my experience with the novel ). I decided to see a second chance and bought yesterday. I thought Footbinding was more depressing and dark matter that immigration from an Asian country occidental.Je really wanted to love this book, but as you can see from my contribution. . . I have not so much. The novel is laden with clichés. Anyone who has spent time in Asia, or in a foreign country less fortunate are probably one of these events, hearing or as determined by the mouth oreille.Nous you start the book with a rich man who leads his wife and two young children in Guangdong (Canton, or how) the writing of the West and see what relates to the province in this book, the largest city in China, Shanghai. He has accumulated six craftsmen, helping at home, including but not limited to: a cook, gardener and domestiques.Malheureusement the reader’s fascination and fear, this large family in China, far and fast. In a surprise announcement, her father breaks the news because he has squandered the family fortune stupid, he set up arranged marriages for his two daughters who have already achieved through the pain of childhood and a teenager in the early pages of history. You are of age, respectively: May is eighteen and clumsily zwanzig Pearl un.Plusieurs enclosures with Chinese-American men followed. Her mother dies, girl and never come in contact with their fathers or family members. May not lose his virginity to the man that his father told him to marry, nor has it ever manage to have a strong bond, but he will somehow become pregnant during casual sex with someone different. On the other hand, Pearl is barren. In all of the four reached Angel Iceland, a small camp Immigration sale in San Francisco. When her sister is pregnant, Pearl, and everyone says she became pregnant with her first child. She and her husband to raise his daughter as her own, even after the passage of four Los Angeles.Beaucoup other tragic, long way. Time and again throughout the book, I could not remember to follow as the sequence of events. It was difficult for me, all the events and ideas continue to monitor (the most tragic of them), push the Lisa See, the reader. I have most of them, and dialogue and incredibly soft. When I finally got one thing left in this story happened, another event entirely new concept, or come delete it. I’ve often wanted to sleep the book and go. Needless to say, I was able to match the characters do not relate in any façon.Lisa See Pound often address an audience of Asian immigrants or children of such persons. I hate to say it, but many other writers like Amy Tan, and have done much better than them. She often tries to take itself documented Embassies of East Asian history and shoves it in his novels. It would be nice if it were possible, but a few other commentators have pointed out that his novels are also available as a story that appeared in major academic degrees: good details and references published, but is not met, for some have, as reading material plaisir. Dan’s all it really depends on what you are looking for. Represent the historical facts that over time have been carefully selected and structured in such a book, the plot was actually organized and meaningful (even if I felt it was shot), compared to his other books. I will not read another book that scatter from the review, but it seems a little trouble in this latest version. Two étoiles.Oh, and I do not know why, but when I write these lines, the book is incredibly expensive. He was released in late May this year and I still paid $ 27. 44 USD for their border. I returned the next day to stay up all night to finish it. Paperback not come out until next February, almost a full year after the original edition. Rating: 2 / 5
After the start of this novel, and is sucked into the story, though unlikely, sometimes was the end, which led the Stars. The characters are poorly drawn and the story rather uneven. It seemed that the author wrote the desired pages, and I do not know how the story ends, but the end did it. I do not want my time back on this author. Rating: 1 / 5
I am a loyal fan of Lisa See, and it did not disappoint me with “Shanghai Girls.” It was easy, the adventures of Pearl and May by the novel well-designed living. Even if I do not visit the Los Angeles area, nor of China, felt by this masterpiece, I put the rush of the crowd, felt and tasted some Oriental products, as vivid colors and gray backgrounds, heard the words of discrimination against foreigners, especially However, I felt the link impenetrable to support the family tradition, especially between the two sœurs.En as a writer himself, Nothing But the Blood, I understand the enormous amount of time and effort that go in a novel. See Lisa amazes me more and more with his willingness, his knowledge and research through these images puissantes.Rating shares: 5 / 5
